Avalon Waterways The Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) is promoting the annual fall cruise sales blitz now known as CLIA Cruise Week (formerly National Cruise Vacation Week). The goal is to get reservations on the books for the rest of this year and beyond. More than two-dozen CLIA member ocean and river cruise lines are holding sales from October 6 to 13, and in some cases beyond. Non-member cruise lines are getting in on the action too with their own special offers — such as a current Un-Cruise Adventures sale. For consumers, the offers come in many forms including discounted fares, cabin upgrades, onboard spending credits (that you can use for things such as drinks and souvenirs) and special airfares. Some of the best deals from the cruise lines allow you to bundle several ongoing promotions. Travel agents may add their own incentives to encourage you to book. If youre flexible with your ships and dates you could save thousands, according to industry expert Stewart Chiron. But make sure to read the fine print. October is a terrific time of the year to book your last-minute and 2015 cruises. Lots of enticing offers, but beware of whoop-de-do and unfriendly consumer restrictions that include non-refundable deposits, Chiron advised. Heres a selection of the CLIA Cruise Week offers. Book a five-day sailing on the Danube in April on one of the lines Suite Ships from $1,349 per person. Holland America Line: HAL is sweetening the pot on 2014 to 2016 sailings with an offer of an onboard credit of $25 to $300, which can be combined with the lines current Explore4 deal (which brings free drinks, dinner at Pinnacle Grill and other perks). Book a one-week Alaska cruise on the Zaandam next spring from $599. Disney Cruise Line: Get a $100 onboard credit per stateroom on seven-day Caribbean cruises aboard the Disney Magic or Disney Fantasy from Port Canaveral. The offer is available from October 6 to 13 and applies to select sailings in January, February and March. Fares from $1,014 for a western Caribbean cruise in February on Disney Magic. MSC Cruises: Pay an ocean-view fare and get a balcony stateroom on cruises in the Caribbean and Europe. On select Caribbean sailings of the MSC Divina out of Miami you can bundle the upgrade with offers of prepaid gratuities, kids cruise free in October and other promotions. Hurtigruten:Save up to 50% on Norwegian Coastal cruises. The sale runs October 6 to 10. The reduced fares apply to sailings through October 31, 2015. Wintertime cruises are particularly popular with the line, allowing guests to view the Northern Lights. Fares for six-day sailings from $869; 12-day cruises from $1,600. Norwegian Cruise Line: In an unusual sale that covers all ships and all sailings, Norwegian is giving 10% cash back in the form on an onboard credit. Spend $500 on a cruise and you get $50 to spend onboard. Book a suite in The Haven and get substantially more. The Perfect 10 promotion applies to new bookings through October 14. Fares for a one-week cruise from Miami on the lines newest ship, Norwegian Getaway, from $419. DEAL WATCH: Norwegian offers 10% back on cruises Carnival Cruise Lines: Get a two-category cabin upgrade (interior to better interior, balcony to better balcony) and $50 onboard credit per stateroom on select three- to 14-day cruises in the Caribbean, Bahamas, Mexican Riviera, Alaska and Canada and New England, embarking from more than a dozen homeports. Offer valid for bookings made between October 6 and 13, for sailings through 2015. Royal Caribbean International: Pay full fare for one guest and bring a companion at 50% off. Plus, if you book air through the lines ChoiceAir program you can knock another 5% off the cruise fare. Included in the offer are cruises in the Caribbean, Bahamas, Bermuda and Europe. The booking deadline is October 31. Fares are from $859 for a week cruising the Caribbean on the worlds largest ship, Oasis of the Seas; with air from $252 from Newark. Cunard: Book a 2015 transatlantic crossing aboard the Queen Mary 2 and youll get $175 in onboard spending credit of $175 — in honor of the lines 175th anniversary. The cruises are seven- to nine days, fares from $1,198. The booking deadline is October 14. Princess Cruises: Save with prepaid gratuities plus up to $50 per person in onboard credit when booking a balcony cabin, mini-suite or suite. The offer applies to cruises in the Caribbean, Mexico, Panama Canal, Hawaii and Asia. Some fares are also reduced up to 30%. Do a one-week Mexican Riviera cruise from Los Angeles, from $499.
