COALITION OF STATUTORY STUDENTS ASSOCIATIONS IN CROSS RIVER STATE CSSACS In the Interest of Tertiary Education in Nigeria cssacs2013@gmail PRESS STATEMENT ISSUED TODAY, 14TH OF AUGUST, 2013 IN SUPPORT OF ASUU’S SAVE UNIVERSITY EDUCATION STRIKE FG: TIME TO SAVE OUR PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES FROM FURTHER DEPRECIATION It is with great pain in our heart that we express our displeasure at the lukewarm and unserious reaction of the Federal Government of Nigeria towards the 2009 FGN-ASUU agreement which has led to the continuous sit-at-home of dear members in the University of Calabar (UNICAL) and Cross River State University of Science and Technology (CRUTECH). We have taken our time to painstakingly peruse the agreement and we are more convinced that the content of the agreement is in the greater interest of our members rather than our Lecturers. We want to use this medium to thank ASUU for their kind-heartedness towards us as this is the only and best opportunity university students have enjoyed in the long history of University education in Nigeria. We are more bothered that the Federal Government is not seeing the danger of keeping the strike longer than we had anticipated considering the tensed security situation in the different parts of the country. As we are already tilting out of patience having bear this situation till now, the needful is for the federal government to accede to the content of the agreement they entered into with ASUU in the interest of public University education and a larger number of us who cannot afford outrageous fee-paying private Universities built from stolen national wealth of the nation and religious deceits. The most affected are the Graduate students who are at the tail end of their research works and are delayed from proceeding further as a result of this strike. Our pain is that majority of this research are self sponsored,,,,,
