COASTGUARD MARAETAI HAS ITS FIRST FEMALE PRESIDENT Kay West has been with the unit for seven and a half years, was elected to the position at the unit’s recent AGM. “I will be building on the excellent work Mark Glover our former president has done over the past three years. His hard work has put the unit into a very strong position and we have an awesome team. I’m excited about the challenge ahead of continuing the momentum Mark has created. We have a multi-talented team who bring many skills to the unit which makes the job of president that much easier” says Kay. Mark, who has been with the unit for six years, says he fully supports Kay’s election to the position. “It’s great to have people coming through with fresh ideas who are capable of taking the unit to the next level.” Mark was recently named Coastguard’s regional rescue volunteer of the year. He cites several highlights of his three years in office as being the continual upskilling of team members, the delivery of the unit’s new rescue vessel in 2011 and the recent opening of the Rowan Muir Community Centre. “The unit as it is. wouldn’t be here without Rowan Muir and to acknowledge all the work he has done has been a huge highlight” says Mark.
