COLD... but its not the #polarvortex. What is the Polar Vortex? It is an area of low pressure located around the North Pole (along with the South Pole), where it consistently spins around. It is not when cold air surges southward. However, we are expecting a dramatic drop in temperatures for a good portion of North America, along with possible winter storms in the northern portions of the United States. The reason is because the remnants of Typhoon Nuri have made it to the northern Pacific, and as a extratropical system, it is disrupting the jet stream, making it amplified (highly wavy). The jet stream, which serves as a dividing line between the cold and warm air, dips southward to accommodate the amplification (remember weather is natures way of balancing itself), and that is opening the door to extremely cold air surging its way southward. Be prepared for chilly weather for the central and eastern United States going forward this week. Just make sure you dont call it the Polar Vortex. ;)
