COMMUNIQUE Regular Meeting of the Supreme Council of Bishops [SCB] Iglesia Filipina Independiente [IFI] September 2-5, 2014, Pandan Beach Report Pandan, Antique 1. Thirty-five [35] bishops, active and retired, from all over the IFI came to and attended in the SCB Regular Meeting held on September 2-5, 2014 in Pandan Beach Resort, Pandan, Antique. The meeting was graciously hosted by the Diocese of Antique through the Right Revd Leon Estrella, its diocesan bishop. 2. The meeting provided another opportunity for the bishops of this Church to come together to deliberate upon all matters related to their canonical duty as church leaders, pastors and teachers. The bishops decided to meet every September of the year, apart from having to gather in February and May to pursue their collective work. 3. The meeting was organized and structured to take place within the context of Eucharistic worship, and common study, fellowship and prayers in cognizance of the fact that the gathering was principally governed by God’s Spirit who bound the bishops all together as one body and sustained them all into one, common direction for the corporate work of the Church. 4. The meeting expressed the collegial nature of the ministry of bishops characterizing the synodical form of governance as they carry the staff of leadership in this Church with the primacy of the Obispo Maximo and exercise the work of oversight on the mission and ministry of the whole IFI. It demonstrated the essential value of the ministry of oversight exercised by bishops to ensure the corporate life, faith and witness of the Church becoming more faithful and consistent to the apostolic work rooted in the Lord Jesus, who is the sure foundation of the Church. 5. In this meeting, the bishops were able to undertake and come up with several pertinent actions. [See full document in IFIs website]. 6. Through this meeting, the bishops hoped that their deliberations were able to converge together their diverse gifts and experiences as individual bishops and relate their respective dioceses to the communion of whole Church, while at same manner bound themselves as a collegial body to address the needs of mission and ministry, come up with common action and mutual understanding in pursuing their collective work, and forge general teaching and policies to enrich the fellowship, communion and witness of the IFI. 7. And through this document, the bishops likewise hoped that churches and congregations in all levels of the IFI use it as official reference for the sharing and information concerning the work of the bishops collegially exercised as SCB. 8. May God be endlessly glorified by the ministry of bishops; may his Church be continually edified by their work and presence; through the Lord Jesus, in the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
