CONDOLENCE MESSAGE. The Students Union Government of Olabisi Onabanjo University under the leadership of Com. Omojay hereby express our condolence message to the families & ASUU on the death of Prof. Festus Iyayi. Prof. Iyayi during life time was an adovate of youth, a promoter of social justice, a role model, an activist, a freedom fighter, a leader,a radical scholar,a father, a great writer & a unionist. He was former National President of Academic Staff Union of Univeristies from 1986 to 1988 and one of the strong pillar of ASUU. Prof. Festus Iyayi was involved in an auto-crash on Tuesday 12 November, 2013, with the convoy of the Kogi State governor, Captain Idris Wada. He was on his way to Kano alongside other members of ASUU, where they were billed to attend the NEC meeting in which the final and crucial decision on the position of ASUU on the protracted ASUU strike was to be taken. The accident which claim his life & other members sustained severe injuries. We heard the news of his death with deep shock, we empathise with the families, people of Edo State & Nigeria at large as the funeral arrangement starts today 4 December, 2013. A renowned non-conformist,Iyayi died in the course of prosecuting the battle in which ASUU has been engaged with the federal government, fighting for the revitalisation of the university system. His life ended at the pinnacle of the academia as a professor of Business Administration and head of the Department of Business Administration,University of Benin.
