CONFAB REOPENING OLD WOUNDS OF NORTH, SOUTH DIFFERENCES, DIVIDING NIGERIA, SAYS KWANKWASO The governor of Kano state, Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has said that the on-going National Conference will not yield any positive result but will rather reopen the healing wounds of sectionalism and hatred between the north and the south in the country. The governor said this over the weekend on the Hausa service of the BBC, monitored in Jos while fielding questions on whether or not the confab is of relevance to the country. He said that fillers from the conference so far showed that it is moving the country backward rather than forward in terms of togetherness and confidence among Nigerians, saying that it was a gathering that would lead to disintegration of the country from the way delegates are now at each others throat on every issue. He said, “ Goodluck Jonathan has nothing to offer this country. He organised the National Conference to divert the attention of Nigerians. The conference is brought in such a way that Muslims would abuse Christians and Christians would abuse Muslims or Hausas would abuse Igbos and Igbos would abuse Hausas or Yoruba would abuse Igbo and Hausa and vice versa. “I am not in support of it. It is a waste of time and resources. Nigeria doesn’t need such kind of conference at the moment because it would not solve our existing problems. To me, coming with the conference now is just a sign of failure of the present administration.” He reiterated that what Nigeria needed was a change in leadership with people of integrity to steer the ship of the state and” not a government that had failed and was still coming up with ideas that would not augur well for Nigeria’s unity and corporate existence in the long run”. The confab, he predicted, would end up as a talk show where billions of Naira would go down the drain instead of channeling such whopping amount into useful projects that could benefit Nigerians.
