CONFIRMATION Jesus: “When the Friend I plan to send you from the Father comes—the Spirit of Truth issuing from the Father—He will confirm everything about Me. You, too, from your side must give your confirming evidence, since you are in this with Me from the start.” ~ John 15:26-27 ** This is a summing up, a conclusion to this great chapter. Notice that the key consequence of the sending of the “Friend” (i.e., Holy Spirit) is and “confirming” and “to confirm.” Holy Spirit always “confirms” and affirms Jesus Christ. They had heard Jesus’ words, which were confirmed by Holy Spirit after the day of Pentecost after His resurrection (e.g., John 2:22; Acts 11:15-16). We modern believers also heard God’s word and trusted in Jesus by faith; then the Word was confirmed in our hearts by the Spirit (Ephesians 1:13). The veil of blindness was removed from our minds, and confirmation began (2 Corinthians 4:3-4). Note in our text that, after the Spirit confirms in our hearts God’s Word, we become “confirming” agents. Our yielded hearts will enable us, especially via the anointing which God gives all believers (1 John 2:20), to give a heartfelt witness, similar to Jesus’ heartfelt witness and the disciples’ heartfelt witness. It’s all part of God’s wonderful plan. < Chuck >
