CONFIRMED: JACOB, MBESUMA OUT OF GHANA MATCH Zambia’s preparations for Friday’s crucial World Cup qualifier against Ghana has been dealt a devastating blow with star strikers Collins Mbesuma and Netherlands based Jacob Mulenga ruled out of match due to injury. The duo has scored five goals between them in the race for the 2014 World Cup and their absence will be seen as hard hitting to the team’s chances on Friday. Team Doctor Joseph Kabungo said from South Africa Mbesuma still needed time to shake off his ankle injury while FC Utrecht had sent scans of Mulenga’s torn thigh muscle that rules the towering striker out of the game. “Collins is doing very well, but I think it is a little premature to bring him back now he needs a little bit more time,” Kabungo said. “It is an injury and it’s not a fitness problem. He has an ankle problem on the right.” He added: “At most two weeks yesterday he trained with the team but after we saw him later we though it wise he continues with his rehab.” On Jacob, Kabungo said FC Utrecht had finally got in touch with the Zambian bench and sent correspondence. “I got correspondence from his club that Mr. Jacob Mulenga has a thigh muscle injury. They sent me some scans that they did in the Netherlands,” he said. “But the only problem we had was they should have followed the normal procedure and allowed the player to travel and we assess him so that’s the only disappointing point.” He said Mukuka Mulenga had fully recovered from his injury and will be eligible to play on Friday if the technical bench willed it. “Mukuka has been training, everything is good with mukuka so we don’t have any issues,” he said. “…he is in good health and has completely recovered from his injury. It is now a technical issue and nothing medical.” The team is expected in the country late in the evening in time for prayers organized by the Ministry of Sports at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross. Zambia needs an outright win to make it to the final round while Ghana only needs to avoid defeat. Source:Bola Zambia
