She’s a tour de force at her craft and has supported ACS through projects such as Soul Sessions where she left the crowd slayed! She also gives back to the larger King’s community by running the Poetry and Spoken Word department for the Gospel Music Society where God inspires her as she blesses us with her bars! Jay Angelo: King’s College London The one they call ‘spoken’. Jay is one of the most talented individuals we have encountered, and one of our most loved freshers. His list of talents never seem to cease and unfold with each new week! From spoken word, to drawing, to music, Jay is no short of a creative genius. Words cannot describe the true talent he bears. Just to see him perform even once; or see only one of his pieces of art in a true privilege. Jay is definitely one to watch. A familiar face on campus and at ACS she exudes friendliness and will talk to any Ada, Caro and Johnny! She’s been vital with bridging the gap between the ACS, the freshers and the LGBTQ+ society this year, introducing a niche dynamic to our ACS events. Not to mention a smile from Cocoa will literally brighten up your day! Kimberley Welsh: Kings College London Kimberly was President of the ACS 2012 – 2013 and Treasurer of the ACS 2011-2012 and since then she has supported the ACS in many ways. Although, a medical student, who has a lot of work on, Kim never fails to help the ACS whether it was by controlling the lighting at our Cultureshock event or by being a support system for successive ACS Presidents and their committee. Kim is a bundle of joy with a huge heart and she never fails to stop giving to the ACS and those around her. Abena Ofori-Sey: Kings College London Abena Ofori-Sey is fourth year medical student at King’s College London and has been involved with ACS from her arrival. She has been in many dances and catwalks in Cultureshock and has even been the choreographer of her own fashion show. As well as juggling medicine and ACS, Abena has also been heavily involved with a Team Up, a charity where volunteers teach Maths, English and Science to students in local schools helping boost their attainment many times over. This year, she has taken on the role of President of TeamUp and this award is to thank her for giving back and helping our surrounding community. Damilola Olaolorun & Kadean Kimiesha: Kings College London Dami and Kadean, Kadami, are family to KCL ACS. Their avant-garde mentoring scheme ‘RISE’ has made them both innovators in their own right. They have provided a unique platform where both the mentor and mentee are both benefited by taking part in the scheme. This scheme is one that will definitely benefit the BME community to not only truly achieve, but to lend helping hand to one another so we may succeed as a unit. The Medici: Kings College London Although not all of these boys are from KCL, there is no disputing that their collaborative presence & power has been felt not only at Kings, but all UoL Universities. Their individual academic achievements alone are second to none, and as a team it is evident that their sense of comradeship & hard work has propelled each of them to do amazing things. From founding websites such as ‘Nubians Abode’, starting the ‘KCL Legal, Commercial & Investment Society’ and to managing seed funds, these boys are always at the brink of innovation. With the benefit of the BME community always in mind, and a balance of creativity and academia these boys are always working on something new and will never stop striving for greatness. They’re a force that will no doubt propel the BME community to a better place in the future and soon take over the world! Israel Sotonwa: Kings College London Israel was Vice President of the ACS 2012-2013 and a Publicity Officer of the ACS 2011-2012. Israel was the creator of one of our now bigger events, “Taboo” and has continually supported the ACS since he graduated. Even though, he now has a job that keeps him busy at Goldman Sachs, Israel has given back to the ACS by supporting the organization of our last Cultureshock, and inspiring our ‘freshers’ at our ‘”From Kings to Kings” event. Israel shows that although he may no longer be a student of King’s College London, he will always be committed in helping the ACS grow. Solomon Olukoya: Kings College London Solomon was the Vice President of the ACS 2013-2014 and the Head of Publicity of the ACS 2012-2013. Through his two year involvement in the committee, Solomon helped to make our Cultureshock events the biggest that they have ever been but he also helped support the voice Black and Minority Ethnic students within King’s College London and was the Ethnic Minorities Officer. Solomon is now studying to qualify as a lawyer but yet he still encourages our ACS, giving us advice and hosting events of ours such as “Taboo”. ACSs all over London cant get enough of him! He continues to dedicate so much time and effort into building the ACS – it wouldn’t be the same without him!
