CONSULTATION: COUNTY COUNCIL HIGHWAYS BUDGET Tory-run Devon County Council intends to make massive cuts to the services it supplies on top of those already made to youth centres, residential care for the elderly, day-care centres, meals on wheels and children’s homes. Over the past four years the County Council’s funding has been cut by 27% by the Tory and Lib Dem Government. The County Council have already saved nearly £128 million and need to save an extra £50 million in 2015/16 and at least £34 million in 2016/17. Now the County Council is consulting on more cuts to the Highways budget, including proposals to: - Reduce the number of vehicles used to deal with severe winter weather - Treat fewer roads with salt - Stop maintaining and restocking grit bins and require local communities to buy salt - Only cut grass on verges where needed to maintain visibility at junctions and on bends - Stop targeted weed spraying and treatment of noxious weeds View the full proposals and give your feedback at https://new.devon.gov.uk/highwaysbudget
