CONTESTANT NUMBER 24 Palmolive Miss India 2000 was a great edition like any other Miss India edition. But something was special. I was 7 years old and I saw this magnetic beauty blowing kisses in a beautiful one piece swimsuit with a quote she lives by “Every Man dies, but very few really lives”. With all due to respect to all other stunning contestants of that year, number 24 was my top favorite. She was unconventional, did not have very long hair, had a beautiful voice, body and of course loads of beauty. I remember my family glued to the television watching this grand event and rooting for different girls. I was sitting in a corner not knowing what it really means to be a beauty queen always waiting for contestant number 24 to be called on stage. She just blew me away. I remember she was asked by great actress of Indian Cinema Waheeda Rehman ji “Is it really difficult to be a beautiful person”. Number 24 answered “One of my contestants just said “beauty lies with in. I believe if you are beautiful inside, if you have belief in yourself, if you trust yourself, and you have confidence and determination to fight the odds, the stamina to last forever, conviction from within and dream to be victorious, that makes you a beautiful person and its not that difficult”. Could one ask for a better answer to this question. I think she just nailed it with her words. I remember how much as a child and a teenager I have tried to copy her moves, the way she posed for the photographers on stage, the way she blew kisses. You are bound to do such things when you idolize such a phenomena. I won’t call her a woman because not every woman can perform like her. She was , is and will be a phenomena in my thoughts forever and ever. Imagine one day in life when you meet your idol, your inspiration and your beautiful dream. That has what happened with me. Since a month, I am living a dream. She has changed the way I see myself, pageants and life.
