COOKERY SHOW Food is dear to all, and cooking is generally - TopicsExpress

COOKERY SHOW Food is dear to all, and cooking is generally considered the domain of women. They always have difficulty bringing in change in taste of dishes, to avoid the monotony of same dishes repeated. Therefore, they take opinions of neighboring friends, information from cookery books and TV shows. Every channel has a cookery show which means there are a lot of viewers to this programme. Presentable women (and sometimes pot-bellied men) pleasantly demonstrate how different types of dishes – veg and non-veg – are cooked. One thing I have wondered at is, how healthy the recipes these people make are! Do they go by the taste only? Do they have any checks or standards to know whether such recipes are toxic, or healthy, or in consonance with the needs of our body? Are these combinations scientific, healthy, and toxin-free? Will these cause any side effects like obesity, insomnia, indigestion, etc.? I have been told during my childhood that though ghee and honey are very good, if these are compounded at a particular ratio, it could be toxic. Similarly, I have heard people say that one should not add curd to any meat dish. These days, people add curd to many meat dishes to increase taste. So, how to know and be sure that the modern recipes taught through cookery shows or cookery books are safe and healthy for body and mind? Are there any standards, checks, cautions, or Do’s or Don’ts for this. Those who know may comment.
