CORE Mini-Grants Available for Families of Young Children Families of children ages birth to 6 are invited to apply by August 1. Wisconsin families of children ages birth to 6 with disabilities who are in Birth to 3 or the Children’s Long Term Care Program are invited to apply for a CORE Mini-Grant of $1,000 to expand opportunities and build relationships between their children and others in their community. CORE stands for Community, Opportunity, Reciprocity, and Enjoyment. Family and community expectations play a huge role in the opportunities that children with disabilities have. And access to opportunities is one of the biggest predictors that children with disabilities will grow up to be more independent, more employable, and better able to participate in their communities. CORE mini-grant recipients will form a local team with other young families, Birth to 3 staff, and community members to introduce young children with disabilities into their community, expand their opportunities, create reciprocal relationships, and increase family enjoyment of their children. The deadline to apply is August 1, 2014. CORE Mini-Grants are provided by the Wisconsin Board for People with Developmental Disabilities (wi-bpdd.org) in partnership with Wisconsin Birth to 3, a project of the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.
