Invariably they are a mish-mash of fact and conjecture. Where isolated anomalies that are going to be inherent in any coverage of an event of this magnitude are seized upon and the preponderance of evidence that conflicts with the anomaly are ignored. I could go through one by one of the so called facts of the Truther movement and demolish them one by one......but frankly I dont have the time or inclination to do either. What I will do is specifically address some of the points made on this thread and try to give you a framework that might allow you to see the logical errors of you and your fellow truthers position. A forlorn hope some might say. Lets start with the no planes have gone undetected before 9/11 statement. This is so wrong as to be almost farcical.....planes did and continue to... go undetected for periods of time. Radar is dependent on numerous factors for it to operate optimally. Weather, sunspots, topography, air traffic and altitude all affect the return on an aircraft. This is one of the reasons that planes are equipped with transponders. Transponders also allow ATC to identify which plane....and on an average day there are 87000 planes flying in US airspace.....is which. Second, there are no clear pictures or video evidence of the first one hitting. This is a clear indication of one of two things; either you are lazy or you would rather accept a statement that corresponds with your pre-conceived notions than do any research that might challenge your world view. Again truthers state this as a fact but interestingly whilst they present the controlled demolition as the why they never discuss the how, so lets have a look at that. There is a saying in the demolition business the bigger they are the harder they fall and when we talk about the WTC we are talking about the biggest ones of all. It takes a lot of explosives and a lot of time to prepare a building to implode. Blasters approach each project a little differently, but the basic idea is to think of the building as a collection of separate towers. The blasters set the explosives so that each tower falls toward the center of the building, For concrete columns, blasters use traditional dynamite or a similar explosive material. Dynamite is just absorbent stuffing soaked in a highly combustible chemical or mixture of chemicals. When the chemical is ignited, it burns quickly, producing a large volume of hot gas in a short amount of time. This gas expands rapidly, applying immense outward pressure (up to 600 tons per square inch) on whatever is around it. Blasters cram this explosive material into narrow bore holes drilled in the concrete columns. When the explosives are ignited, the sudden outward pressure sends a powerful shock wave busting through the column at supersonic speed, shattering the concrete into tiny chunks. Steel construction as in the twin towers is a bit trickier. Demolishing steel columns is a much more difficult, as the dense material is much stronger. For buildings with a steel support structure, blasters typically use the specialized explosive material cyclotrimethylenetrinitramine, called RDX for short. RDX-based explosive compounds expand at a very high rate of speed, up to 27,000 feet per second (8,230 meters per second). Instead of disintegrating the entire column, the concentrated, high-velocity pressure slices right through the steel, splitting it in half. Additionally, blasters may ignite dynamite on one side of the column to push it over in a particular direction. No matter what method is used.... for the demolition to be controlled so that the building falls into its own footprint..... Bore holes and extensive structural work must be done to ensure the building falls in the right way. This is not TV but real life and there are real world physics to contend with when destroying any structure.....,, let alone a building the size of the WTC. So when and how was this preparation done? Due to previous attacks on the WTC security was high. Any work or workmen have to be approved by security and the building management and this is really where the conspiracy theory starts to break down. It literally takes weeks to prepare a building for demolition not one of the employees that worked in the tower, not one of the numerous security personnel and maintenance people have ever come forward and stated that extensive work to expose structural beams was going on in the weeks prior to 9/11. As to theThermite charges so beloved of the Truther movement, the same rules of placement apply. Yes.... they can dissolve steel beams but do not produce the burst of debris that truthers claim as evidence of their use. Now lets look at the fall of the building itself. I could go into the physics of Force Balance and Progressive Collapse but it would take up too much space in this already overlong post. So I will content myself with supplying this link and an observation about the lack of intellectual rigour in the Truther movement. Every engineering faculty in every university in nearly every country has studied and modeled the event. None.... I repeat none.... of these institutions has found anything anomalous in their studies or modelling that would indicate that the collapse was due to any other cause. We are talking about literally hundreds of thousands of replicated experiments that concur with the findings of the NIST investigation. This is the fundamental problem with the conspiracist worldview. As you start to look at the real world evidence the number of people who have to be in on it grows exponentially. Now I could go on all day..... Some might say I already have..... So I will close with this. 9/11 conspiracy theories have less to do with facts than they do with some emotional need to believe that the government conspired to kill vast numbers of it own citizens. As I said earlier in a previous post. 9/11 conspiracy theories are not an amusing conceit like those theories that propose that the moon landings were fake or the Mafia killed Kennedy. The Truth movement exonerates the Jihadists from the evil of their actions and transfers the responsibility to the American people themselves. It is a poisonous well that never runs dry. It demeans the victims and delegitimises the sacrifice of those that died trying to save them. It finally is the last resort of cowards who would rather manufacture fictitious enemies than face the real threat we face. Truther idiots is a better term than they deserve.
