COURTESY OF CHARLES NYACHAE-CIC Governor Kabogo of Kiambu is among the leaders that I have high regard for. From his days as a Member of Parliament and lately as a Governor, I have alwaysconsidered him to be an articulateand issue oriented leader. That is not to say I always agreed with him.My respect and regard for the Governor is all the more reason why I am flabbergasted by his comments a few days ago, where he publicly disparaged unmarried women and called to question their capacity and ability to hold positions of leadership, simply by virtue of their marital status.I have to condemn the Governorssentiments in the strongest possible terms! The same are offensive not just to women. They are certainly offensive to me as a believer in the principles of equality and non discrimination whether on the basis of gender orotherwise.In a modern civilised democracy, civility and mutual respect must inform all public discourse.The Governor may have made the utterances in an unguarded and reckless moment. In my humble view, a public apology is in order.Usiku mwema!
