COURTESY POST: Spruce Grove/Stony Plain RCMP. The Spruce Grove RCMP are currently investigating a case of a missing Blood Python in the area of Aspenglen. The python belongs to a Spruce Grove man, who reported to police that the snake had escaped from his home. Police, in partnership with Alberta Fish and Wildlife and Spruce Grove Municipal Enforcement, have consulted with reptile experts and have learned that this particular snake poses virtually no threat to public safety. It is not considered offensive in nature and is likely hiding away from populated areas attempting to stay warm. The climate in Alberta is not hospitable for a python and the snake will not survive long if it remains outside. Although experts advise that the chances of finding the python are very low, police are asking anyone who spots the animal, not approach it and contact the Spruce Grove RCMP Detachment complaint line at (780) 962-2222. The snake is three feet in length with orange, brown and black markings.
