(Matt. 24:44 NIV) On midnight shift in the jail housing units, eyes can sometimes get a little heavy. Its often customary to beep adjacent housing areas on the intercom when the shift sergeant is en route to the area, just to make sure your coworkers have their area squared away. Sometimes though, the sergeant is a little cagey, doubling back, keying between floors, or taking advantage of security monitor blind spots. On one occasion, two deputies had fallen behind: lights down, nodding off, log entries unmade. Luckily for them they happened to hear the sergeants jingling keys as he approached down the hall. In about fifteen seconds the lights were up, feet on the floor, and log entries updated. By the time the sergeant arrived at the door, he saw the most awake, alert deputies ever! Unfortunately for the world, Jesus isnt going to jingle His keys just before He splits open the sky at His second coming.
