CSM BOBBY MEADORS do you remember this man? Robert Donald Don Stover - Laurens Robert Donald “Don” Stover, Sr., age 80, of Laurens, passed away on Saturday morning, March 15, 2014 at PCSC in Clinton. He was born in Charlotte, NC, and he was the son of the late J.D. Stover and Eva Wilson Stover. “Red” graduated from Laurens High School and was a defensive guard on the football team. In addition to working for Hunt Motor Company and Norris Industries (where he retired), Mr. Stover proudly served over 10 years as custodian for First Presbyterian Church of Laurens, where he was a life-long member. He was also an OMS Shop Chief in the National Guard and a SFC with 30 years of service. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and devoted wife of 58 years, Phyllis Shealy Stover (residing at PCSC); his son, David Wesley Stover and wife Jean Crowder Stover of Simpsonville; his daughters, Christina Lee Stover of Charlotte, NC and Elizabeth Stover Balcombe and husband John Edward Balcombe of Fort Mill, SC; his grandchildren, Michael Louis Spearman and wife Amanda Linder Spearman of Simpsonville, Jeffrey Allan Stover of Gray Court, Travis Justin Stover and wife Kaitlin Hodges Stover of Caycee, SC, Brian Robert Balcombe of Fort Mill, and Nicholas Stover of Laurens; his great-grandchildren, Charleigh Madison Spearman, and Sawyer Jack Spearman of Simpsonville; his brother Gary Stover of Laurens; and his sisters Mary Lou Cox of Fountain Inn and Janice Davis of Laurens; along with 11 nieces and nephews and a large extended family. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Robert Donald Stover, Jr. (Bobby) and brothers, Carl Stover of Laurens and Jimmy Stover of St. Louis, MO. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, March 19th at 3:00 p.m. by Rev. Dr. Jeri Parris Perkins at First Presbyterian Church of Laurens, with burial at Westview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends before the service from 1:30 – 2:45 p.m. at the church.
