CSYFL Under 18’s Division 1 SWAY YOUTH 6 – 0 BOTLEY VILLAGE BARRACUDAS Shining Light Linsley! Another great result for Sway Youth as they continued their 100% record and kept another clean sheet. Unlike the pitch and conditions, Sway’s start was far from perfect. Sway seemed sluggish and misplaced passes due to a lack of options off the ball meant they struggled to find their rhythm. It was a relief therefore when on 15 minutes Sam Roberts intercepted the Goalkeeper’s kick, beat the last defender and coolly slotted in at the far post. Botley had a chance for an immediate reply but a whipped in free-kick from the left went just past the post following a glancing header. Rob Linsley then took the game by the scruff of the neck and posed a constant threat down Sway’s left flank. A quickly taken free kick on the half way line in to Linsley’s feet set him on his way and by the time he’d reached the opposition’s box he’d beaten 3 players and the Keeper could only palm his low drive in to the roof of the net . Botley’s Keeper then made a couple of good saves – advancing sharply to deny Ben Elliott-Haffenden on the break and pushing Sam Roberts’ 20 yard drive just past the post. Despite the 2 goal advantage, Sway’s Dressing Room was not a happy place at half time with players and management alike disappointed that the high standards set and expected in recent weeks had not been achieved. 3 changes were made to freshen things up, with a 4th 15 minutes in to the second half to replace the injured Haining. Steffen Hall kept things simple with excellent distribution from the back and Sway finally came looking for the ball and gave themselves options. Matt Hillyar got the chance he’s been waiting for and looked lively up front paired with his old strike partner Tom Dymond for the first time this season. Hillyar’s pace allowed him to latch on to a Sam Robert’s angled through ball, which he leathered in off the underside of the bar. Robert’s did the same 10 minutes later and Dymond this time found the corner of the net with a low drive. In the last 5 minutes, Dymond’s perfectly flighted cross was nodded in from close range by Hillyar for his second and Aidan Lacy ran powerfully on to a ball over the top and volleyed low in to the corner of the net. Valuable contributions from Sway’s 5 second half substitutes and the Squad look forward to an away trip next week against Andover New Street in the 2nd round of the Hampshire Cup. Sway Youth FC: James Cornwell, Jaq Rashleigh, Jordan Harrison, Matt Smith, Chris Haining, George Edwards, Charley Dukes, Sam Roberts, Ben Elliott-Haffenden, Lewis Geard, Rob Linsley, Matt Hillyar, Tom Dymond, Josh Elliott, Steffen Hall, Aidan Lacy.
