It remained unmoving, even as the audience began to boo and hiss. The show had been canceled. Only severe weather would cancel a show once or twice a summer. Nothing like this had every happened before. As the crowd’s discontent grew louder Ella, still smiling, turned sharply on her heels and left the stage. She threw the microphone on the table and marched out of the backstage area without a word. The cast and crew watched her walk away and then stumbled around, a bit bewildered, not knowing whether to rejoice in a rare evening free or to be worried about the disappearance of Annie. Stacey grabbed her phone and dialed. “Norman! Hello this is Stacey the stage manager up at the amphitheater. We’ve got a problem. Annie Spencer is missing. Yes I’ll wait here; OK we’ll talk then.
