CYC unveils its 2 years strategic plan. After series of consultations, deliberations and discussions, the apex youth body in the Commonwealth, the Commonwealth Youth Council (CYC) has unveiled its strategic plan for the period of 2015 and 2016. The plan is a tool for delivering the aspirations of the 1.2 Billion young people in the 53 Commonwealth countries. In his message on the strategic plan, the Chairperson of the CYC, Ahmed Adamu, expressed happiness on the successful compilation of this important document. “On behalf of the CYC, I am pleased to present this Strategic Plan and offer you a vision for young people for the next two years. A vision for the present and future generations of the Commonwealth. We are determined to further build CYC as a trusted partner in development that extensively contributes to the Commonwealth community, while empowering and engaging young people. “ He added that “Our exciting and bold strategic plan, Engaging and Empowering Young People, is a roadmap for our organization that is allowing us to deliver now and into the future, on our vision of engaging and empowering young people in the Commonwealth for a better and stronger Commonwealth. It is through our strategic plan that we aim to lead in advancing the Commonwealth agenda, enabling young people to reach potential, and innovate and build a solid foundation for all young people in the Commonwealth.” The CYC is guided by its three working philosophies, which the council named as 3Ps, which are Participation, Protection and Promotion. “This Strategic Plan is guided by CYC founding philosophy: PARTICIPATING to influence global policy agenda, PROTECTING the CYC and its members (young people of the Commonwealth) and PROMOTING our work at a national and global level”, Mr Adamu added. The strategic plan is based on the Hambantota Youth Declaration which summarises the ambitions of the young people in the Commonwealth. As you can remember, the Youth Declaration was presented and discussed with the heads of governments in the Commonwealth during a youth dialogue at the last CHOGM held in Sri Lanka in 2013. The CYC strategic plan has prioritised on few major areas, which are: Education, Employment, Professionalization of Youth Work, Reconciliation and Social Cohesion as well as Sustainable Development Goals (Post 2015). Young people are encouraged to study the strategic plan, and work toward achieving the strategic objective of the plan through their youth-led organisations. Future partnerships and collaborations will be prioritised within these areas. CYC has developed strategic projects aimed at delivering the objectives of the plan, some of which are underway. The plan also give rooms for involvement and participation in other cross-cutting issues like Gender mainstreaming, participation of marginalised special interest groups, etc You can download the CYC strategic plan here.
