California Proposition 2 from 2008, the Prevention of Farm Animal Cruelty Act, goes into effect on January 1, 2015. The proposition requires that calves raised for veal, egg-laying hens and pregnant pigs be confined only in ways that allow these animals to lie down, stand up, fully extend their limbs and turn around freely. 63 percent of California voters, voted in favor of Proposition 2.
