Call for Candidates: GWP is Seeking Nominations and Applications for its Technical Committee GWP will appoint up to three new members as of 1 January 2014. Technical Committee members are appointed by the Steering Committee for a term of three years, renewable once. Candidates should be world leaders in one or more aspects of the practice of water resources management. The focus will be on nominating well known women experts in the following areas: Transboundary cooperation; Climate change; Ecosystems; Political economy, institutions and governance. The Global Water Partnership’s vision is for a water secure world, in which communities are protected from floods, droughts, and water borne diseases, and where environmental protection and the negative effects of poor management are effectively addressed. Its mission is to support the sustainable development and management of water resources at all levels. GWP currently works under its 2009-2013 Strategy. The Strategy emphasises that GWP shall be at the forefront of global thinking on water management and to provide support at regional and country levels. At the beginning of 2014, GWP will launch its new 2014-2019 Strategy, which articulates the way in which GWP will pursue its vision and mission in the years ahead. General information about GWP and its strategy is available here. As the network grows and becomes more focused on operations, the role and modus operandi of the TEC, the Secretariat and the Regional Partnerships, and the way in which they interact with one another on technical issues, is being strengthened and brought close together to provide global intellectual leadership to keep GWP at the forefront of new ideas and challenges, and provide demand-driven technical support to the Network. The TEC seeks to achieve a balance of disciplines (natural, technical, social, legal, economic), geography (good regional coverage), gender, representation of both scientists and practitioners, and balance of organizational background and practical experience. In this call GWP is particularly encouraging nominations from female candidates. Apart from the four focus areas outlined above, GWP is interested in candidates with (1) strong expertise in environmental sciences, (2) strong engineering background, and (3) practical experience mainly within public administrations. Background and experience in one or more of the thematic priorities indicated in the 2009-2013 Strategy would be preferred. TEC members act in their individual capacity and provide advice and analysis in an independent manner. They are expected to provide an input of approximately 30 days a year, including two annual TEC meetings. TEC members are paid at a daily rate set by the GWP Steering Committee. All travel, per diem, and accommodation costs are covered at standard terms. The working language of the TEC is English. Nominations and applications should be submitted by 14 October 2013. Nominations and applications received now will remain active for three years, so that suitable candidates who cannot be selected this year may be considered again when further vacancies arise. Relevant information should include name, gender and email address in the case of nominations, or full Curriculum Vitae and a letter of motivation in the case of applications. For more information and submission of applications, please contact the administrative coordinator for TEC, Dr. Danka Thalmeinerova, at: [email protected]. gwp.org/en/
