Call for Expressions of Interest for Field visit Solomon Islands, February 2015 We are looking for an MDP student to travel with us for around two weeks in February, 2015. The student will work alongside a broader team (of Australians and Solomon Islands staff) to engage in research into community based forestry and community development in Solomon Islands. Our project has been running since 2008 (funded by the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research). In this project we are evaluating initiatives aimed at developing sustainable forestry and social and economically viable responses to the devastating rates of natural forest clearing. In this research trip, we will examine the role of community-based education in assisting to build community knowledge of agro forestry. A number of themes will be explored, including indigenous knowledge, learning pathways, power relations, gender issues, sustainable forestry and community economic development. The successful applicant will have all expenses covered (flights, meals, accommodation) and will travel alongside two academic staff (Kristen Lyons and Peter Walters). The student will be expected to engage in fieldwork, and to enroll in a research thesis that they will complete in 2015. To apply, please submit and expression of interest of 500 words by 2 Jan, 2015. You should provide details of why you think you are a good candidate for this field visit, including your background and areas of interest. We will notify the successful applicant by 4 January, 2015. For more information, or to make a submission, please contact us at [email protected] or [email protected] Thanks, Kristen and Peter
