Call it a lack of political will or absence of farsightedness, the connectivity problem between Guwahati and North Guwahati has remained pathetic with the decades long demand of the people, to build a bridge on Brahmaputra to connect the city with its northern arm, falling on deaf ears. A large number of people, students, office goers, patients and others depend on the ferries or bhootbhooti (mechanized boats) plying sparingly between Guwahati and North Guwahati. Despite the fact that a stretch of the Brahmaputra has been declared as National Waterway 2, no visible step has been taken to improve the water transport on the Brahmaputra, which is the lifeline of the people of Assam. via The Assam Tribune
