Call-to-Action from GMO Free New York: VERMONT IS ON THE VERGE of passing a no-strings-attached GMO Labeling Bill. How did they do it? By taking the time to contact their representatives and being persistent. Let’s join Vermont and do the same. If New York passes GMO Labeling, it will reverberate through the Northeast and the rest of the country. Let’s get to it! Do your part today for New York State GMO Labeling Bill A3525B: 5 minutes of your time will make the difference! There are 2 members of the Assembly Consumer Affairs and Protection Committee, Buchwald and Solages, that are still undecided on A3525B. They need to hear from New Yorkers now. Weve made it really easy for you and have included a draft letter that you can copy and paste in case you’re not sure what to write. Better yet, write something in your own words. We need ALL NEW YORKERS to send an e-mail in support GMO labeling. If you live in their districts, be sure to let them know you are one of their constituents. Please be polite, but firm, in your communications. These 2 Committee Members are still assessing their positions and can be moved by positive and encouraging messages. Committee Members to contact: David Buchwald - [email protected] Michaelle Solages - [email protected] Sample Letter: Dear Assemblymember ___________ : I am writing to ask for your support for Bill A3525B (Rosenthal) to require genetically engineered foods to be labeled here in New York State. Maine and Connecticut have already passed GMO labeling bills and CT lawmakers have urged NY to do the same. Vermont is on the verge of passing GMO labeling, and over 20 other States are moving forward with GMO labeling efforts. New York should be leading, not following, or taking no action at all. Every national and New York State poll has shown that 90%+ of consumers support GMO labeling. This bill does not limit the use of GMOs in any way. It simply requires companies that use GMOs in their food products to clearly label those products. As a New Yorker, I believe that I have a right to know what is in my food. At a minimum, we believe this bill deserves to be passed out of Committee to allow the full Assembly to take an up or down vote. I would appreciate your support of A3525B when it comes up for a vote in the Consumer Affairs and Protection Committee. Sincerely, (your name and address) ########### Assembly Members Districts: Buchwald - 93rd district in Westchester County - including the towns of Bedford, Harrison, Lewisboro, Mount Kisco, New Castle, North Castle, North Salem, Pound Ridge and parts of White Plains.
