Calling all University of Liverpool alumni. Support staff at - TopicsExpress

Calling all University of Liverpool alumni. Support staff at UoL will be taking industrial action next month due to attacks on pay which hit lowest paid staff hardest. If you are an alumni and would like to co-sign the letter below with myself and my Liverpool Alumni UNISON colleagues message me with your name, course, year you graduated and current address (wont be published). Thanks! Dear Vice Chancellor, We, the undersigned, graduates of the University of Liverpool, are disgusted that the lowest-paid University Staff have been singled out for continued attacks on their terms and conditions. We have been contacted by those who represent the staff who worked there when were students and hear they will have their wages cut dramatically. These key support staff provide services such as catering, cleaning and building management which keep the University running and the students safe. Each of us know from experience that the university support staff made our time at Liverpool an experience that played a part in our success whether it was cleaning rooms, providing food , or securing the buildings we lived in. As former students of this great University and graduates who have benefited significantly from the first class support of its dedicated staff, we fully support the staff resorting to strike action. We understand how angry they are given the increasing amount of money the university gets in tuition fees alone which is being spent on expansions in China rather than the people who made the difference for us and will do for many more students to come IF they are treated properly. As graduates and former students from across the UK, we ask why is this prestigious, expanding university treating its lowest paid staff so severely ? Why jeopardize the support services students rely on and bring the University into disrepute ? We believe those managers on a great deal more pay than the people who took care of us ,should stop this action NOW.
