Calling all future judges, lawyers, and community advocates: The Harlem Youth Court is now accepting applications for their next cohort. Youth aged 14 to 18 who reside in New York City can apply to become Youth Court members. Youth Court members participate in an informative and fun eight-week summer training program, in which they learn about restorative justice and how the justice system in the city works. Teens learn to perform the functions of the Youth Court by practicing the roles of judges, jurors, community advocates and youth advocates. Once trained, Youth Court members will hear actual low-level juvenile delinquency matters referred from courts, prosecutors and schools. Members earn a stipend during their term of service. No experience is necessary, and youth who have been involved in the justice or child welfare system are also encouraged to apply. Go to goo.gl/wwudXJ to apply. The priority application deadline is March 31. amsterdamnews/news/2015/jan/08/harlem-youth-court-accepting-applications/
