Camera Use in DC Metro Parking Lots Has No Effect on Crime Nearly half of all serious crime that occurs on the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority rail transit system occurs in its parking facilities. With the overall goal of preventing such crime by deterring potential criminals via the prominent display and position of signs, the Metro Transit Police collaborated with researchers from the Urban Institute to develop a crime prevention strategy to combat crime in parking facilities through the use of digital cameras. After assessing the available evidence, the CrimeSolutions.gov team rated the program as “No Effects” in impacting crime in the parking facilities.
