Can You Count the Stars? A typical African prayer during the pouring of libation states: God make us prosperous; give us those to comsume it! The culmination of/and a fulfilled life is ones offsprings. Wealth is of no essence if there are no descendants to enjoy it. While provisions are there to console those who do not have biological children, childlessness nevertheless carries with it a stigma that weighs so heavily on the person concerned. It is still common to hear it being said to a childless person that a stone would be put in his palm before burial. This is the example of cultural and social platforms that stigmatizes and force people to seek alternative solutions when God has planned otherwise! Childlessness can also destroy faith in God. Take the example of Abram: God told him Do not be afraid...I am your shield, your very great reward. Instead of building confidence on the promises of God, he rather abandoned his religious convictions and prioritised the cultural aspect crying: O Sovereign LORD, what can you give me since I remain childless...You have given me no children; so a servant in my household will be my heir. My dear friend the hurdles of life, the realities of our present situations are often a contradiction to what we know should be our portion (if life has to move according to social and cultural expectations)! Such moments in life may cause you to doubt your Father in heaven. I declare to you that that condition isnt your conclusion! God told Abram: ...a son coming from your own body will be your heir...Look up at the heavens and count the stars - if indeed you can count them...So shall your offspring be. My friend, it is good to stand on the promises of God which cannot fail! Despite his doubts and human weaknesses, we are told that Abram believed the LORD, and he credited it to him as righteouness. (Gen.15:1-6). What is that problem that has caused you to shed tears for so long? When faced with such moments, just remember what the Son of that Eternal Rock of ages said: Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me... Yes, put your trust in God alone! God bless you!
