Can anyone shed any light on this ? (My sources say it is an Iranian Ship - not confirmed though) ~~~~ANONYMOUS NUKE SHIP TO DOCK IN PE ~~~~ Article from News24 on 05/05/2014 Cape Town – An application has been made for an unknown ship to enter the Nelson Mandela Bay area, the ship is asking for permission to enter the bay with nuclear material that is unspecified. According to Earthlife Africa a notice was published in the Herald Live Newspaper in the Nelson Mandela Bay area, where it asked for objections from the public or any body that would oppose the entry of a ship carrying nuclear waste. The Newspaper did not mention the ships name, the material or waste being carried, and did not mention which bay in the Nelson Mandela area the ship would be entering. The Herald Live newspaper published the announcement according to Earthlife on 10 April. The group has called on the National Nuclear Regulator (NNR) for answers. Earthlife would like to know why the NNR made an application on behalf an unknown applicant to enter the Mandela Bay area. According to South African legislation the applicant must publish an advert asking for a nuclear licence. Earthlife argued that the NNR did not inform any organisation concerned about nuclear matters in South Africa about the application. The NNR in addition has not made known what steps will be put into place to monitor such imported radioactive materials; nor whether it has the personnel in place to ensure public health and safety Earthlife objects to the application and is calling upon the NNR to disclose the type, quantity and radiation levels of material being referred to in the advert. Earthlife calls for the name of the company to be disclosed as well as the destination of the nuclear material. } I think all the residents of PE and surrounds, would also like to know the answer from NNR ~ here are their contact details: NATIONAL NUCLEAR REGULATOR Telephone: (012) 674 7100 Facsimile: (012) 663 5513 Email: [email protected] CAT Facebook/TrafficPE
