Can someone answer this riddle for me? Received a letter with some different after school activities for the children. Lovely ideas like table tennis and other physical activities (I cant be arsed to get up and get the letter to see what else was on it.) Only option for FS (reception)? iPad club at lunchtime on a Tuesday. So the only extra curricular activity for children aged 4-5 is to cut into her exercise time, and sit her down and shove her head into a computer. How is this deemed acceptable? Will I give her permission to take part in this club? No I flipping well wont, she is four she should by running and climbing and socialising with her peers. NOT losing herself in a virtual world. I know its only one lunchtime, but in my humble opinion it is one lunchtime too many. Then as I read the term time table, the FS children are having their height and weight monitored. Slightly ironic? No losing one lunchtime a week wont make a child overweight, but what kind of example is it? Im a great believer that raising a child to be moral, confident, balanced and healthy is the responsibility of parents. I do not believe in shoving my responsibility to the school, but work with me here! Now every Tuesday Im going to have a peeved off child that I wont let her play puter at school, and then but muuuuuummmmm so and so does. She is allowed extremely monitored and limited iPad time, grudgingly at home and she enjoys it, but Ill be damned if it is the be all and end all for her. I have already had that decision taken away from me, when she was 3, her nursery deemed her I.T. Skills to be equivalent of an 18 month old. So we had to buy her an age appropriate tablet so she didnt fall behind her peers. (Btw why do age appropriate tablets for 3 year olds even exist???) Ive had enough, my child will be outside getting into mischief as long as bloody possible, scraping her knees, getting bruises, pushing boundaries and being a child. If there was another physical activity open to her I wouldnt care, but dont take my choices as a parent away. Looks like Im going to have to be that mother.
