Canada: Todays assault on Canadas democracy serves as yet another timely warning that there are armed lunatics amongst us. It is not alarmist to be aware of the very real danger of a domestic attack here. Over the past decade our security forces have averted many planned attacks. Australians and Canadians have a right to walk their streets in the knowledge that they live in a free and democratic society, a society that is tolerant of religious and political differences. But not tolerant of physical and verbal assaults. The sooner the west realises the potential threat that these sadistic lunatics actually pose, and retaliate to obliterate them, the better. They are not a religious sect, they are a political movement born out of the trouble that has been the middle east for centuries. The ease with which these organisations can attract supporters and funding demonstrates the need to educate the disenchanted. The Iraqi army have proven they are unable, or unwilling, to defeat Daisha. The Arab Spring demonstrated that democracy, as we know it, is not an option in much of the middle east, the religious and tribal differences are too great. The west must determine a course of action that eliminates the current threat and establishes a framework for a workable governing solution in the middle east.
