Canadian actress Ellen Page tweeted a witty response to a religious pastor who attacked her for being gay (22 March). With her characteristically dry humour, the 27-year-old responded to the views of the homophobe on Twitter. ‘2 da Pastor who wrote me-Being gay isnt a belief. My soul isn’t struggling& I dont want arms of Heavenly Father around me. A girls arms? Yes’ she wrote. Award-winning Page, famous for her roles in films such as ‘Juno’, ‘X-Men’ and ‘Inception’ came out as gay in February saying she was ‘tired of lying by omission.’ She said so in a speech at an LGBT conference to promote youth welfare in the US. ‘I’m here today because I am gay. And because… maybe I can make a difference. To help others have an easier and more hopeful time. Regardless, for me, I feel a personal obligation and a social responsibility’ she said. After her announcement, she enjoyed a wealth of support online from fans and co-stars and this tweet in particular has been retweeted over 5,000 times by her followers. It was also announced last month Page will star alongside US actress Julianne Moore as the pair portray a lesbian couple in upcoming indie film Freeheld. The film, based on a true story, is about the lesbian couple and their fight for equal rights when one of them is diagnosed with a terminal illness. - See more at: gaystarnews/article/ellen-page-tweets-perfect-response-homophobic-pastor230314#sthash.f8CFS6au.s6MTxBNc.dpuf
