Can’t we develop websites for Government Agencies..??A sincere step that we Engineers can make **************************************** In our country where 12% of the citizens are regular internet user facilities like online passport application, booking railway tickets on IRCTC, paying bills on BSNL website has made life much easier. Technology enthusiasts in us must have experienced sudden jolt of happiness on knowing that, that Indian government is actually trying to go along with the fast paced tech-savvy world. But Guys, much to our disappointment most of the sites of government ministries are outdated and have a poor interface. Some of the websites were too slow to open while some had a really pathetic interface with a lot of good-for-nothing non-functioning buttons and links. Even the content matter written on some websites was not up to the mark. ============================= While we Indian Engineers can develop a good website for many government agencies of US, it’s really sad to find that our own government’s website is not managed properly. What if the IT projects of the Indian National Government and the State governments were handed out to the students of government institutions like our Colleges as projects and internships? We engineers can redesign it for them as a part of our internship project..Wouldn’t this have innumerable benefits? ============================= To list a few of them: 1. Many of the students in engineering colleges don’t get sufficient exposure of their course in 4 years, for them it will provide an opportunity to get introduced to the technology of their interest. 2. The government will have to pay a nominal amount of money to students as they will be doing this as a part of their internship project. 3. With the growing number of engineers opting to learn app development for Android and iOS, the government should be incentivized to enter the Smartphone world as well. 4. Along with being an excellent addition to our CV,this way we can contribute to the development of our nations brand image too. This can be achieved by: 1. Asking our college administration to make some arrangements for us..at least we should give it a try and ask our HODs, Deans and Director for this. 2. General Secretary and Vice President of student council should be asked to take desired steps for achieving this. 3. Government can draw up confidentiality agreements very similar to the ones drawn up when companies recruit the students. The Indian National Government can take this up as a massive project to go virtual by 2020 and set up a chain of projects of website development and app building for different governmental offices. Teams could be formed after rounds of interviews and tests and the teams would comprise of students across engineering colleges. The teams could be a blend of content writers, web designers, programmers, Photoshop designers and app developers.It could be led by a professor as well who would grade each student based on his or her performance. This project would be have a multi-fold advantage for both sides of the equation and when given as projects, it would end up pacing up the entire process as the students would have to finish it within their project deadlines.
