Capt Reid “Eeyore” Nannen was a world-class fighter pilot and even better father and husband. He served two combat tours in Afghanistan - one in the air and one on the ground. His tragic death in a training mishap during Top Gun this week serves as a stark reminder that the greatest risks born by modern fighter pilots are frequently in training. Eeyore gave his life for his country just as surely as if he stepped on an I.E.D. in Helmand, and I, for one, will feel forever indebted to him and his family for their sacrifice. He died as he lived - at the top of his game and yet still striving to be better. His life stands as a benchmark and inspiration, having achieved more in his 32 years than most would dare to dream of in twice that time. He is survived by a loving wife and four children, the youngest of whom was born just this January and who never had the opportunity to meet her father. I rarely post to Facebook and never with a request like this, but to all of my friends I urge you to consider a contribution to this worthy cause. This is an opportunity to have a dramatic, targeted impact on the legacy of a Marine who gave his all. youcaring/tuition-fundraiser/captain-reid-nannen-memorial-children-s-fund/146125
