Captain America The Winter Soldier - well worth seeing if you like - TopicsExpress

Captain America The Winter Soldier - well worth seeing if you like the Marvel movies. Nailed it. An ensemble piece with Cap as the central character but plenty for Nick Fury and Black Widow to do, and Anthony Mackie is great as Caps new buddy Falcon. I wasnt going to go and see it due to lack of time and money but Im glad i did, it was the best of the Marvel movies so far for me. They get the tone right once again, so that you totally buy the idea that ridiculous things like winged jet packs and bionic arms exist, and that a man can throw himself out of a fifteen story window and survive the impact. Indeed the least convincing things in this movie, the bits that look most like bad special effects, are Garry Shandlings face and Robert Redfords hair. Particularly liked that the fight scenes, which are very well choreographed, are also shot so that you can actually see whats going on - too many modern films are just a blur in the fight scene bits and you cant follow the action. Here you can. (Im not too sure why Cap doesnt knock-out everybody he fights with a single punch given how strong he is, but I suppose if he was too indomitable in combat thered be no sense of risk for the viewer and its much better to see Cap square off against people armed with knives and pistols than against robo-alien footsoldiers) I wont spoil anything by telling you specifics of scenes but there are plenty of different fights in different environments to enjoy. There are a few flaws (the Winter Soldier himself doesnt really get much development within the film and the bad guys plan seems a little too ambitious in real terms, also its a bit X-Men 2), but they dont weigh up against the overall satisfaction of the film as a whole. Definitely go see it if you can. 3d is unintrusive, theres a lot of people falling out of windows and flying about and Caps shield-slinging, obvs, but I think you wont miss too much in 2d. it just gives it a nice edge of depth. PS Chris Evans upper torso, especially his shoulders, is insanely huge!
