Carbon Footprint The respect that asteya asks of us extends to the respect of our planet. Asteya is not only not taking what is not ours, but also not taking more than we need. By continuing to use up Earths resources without replenishing them, we are creating an imbalance. Our actions have repercussions that we are beginning to experiance with extreme weather conditions, food and water shortages. One of the biggest problems facing our planet is global warming. This is where the Earths atmosphere and oceans have a rise in temperature. The increase in temperature is due to certain gases trapping the heat from the sun in the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide is the gas most responsible for global warming. The carbon dioxide emissions that are caused by the activities we do is called our carbon footprint. Our choices in food, transportation, activities and products we buy all come with thier own carbon dioxide emissions. Some more than others. The most important thing we can do to help our planet is to take responibility for our own actions. Our personal behavior has a huge impact on the health of our planet. Past generations did not plan well for the future, but that doesnt mean we cant. 25 things you can do to help: 1. Avoid over packaged foods 2. Recycle 3. Use reusable shopping bags 4. Dont buy bottled drinks 5. Eat less..or no meat 6. Buy locally grown food 7. Use white trash bags. Black ones cant be recycled 8. Insulate your home 9. Use a laptop instead of desktop 10. Use compact florescent light bulbs 11. Unplug appliances when not in use 12. Set water heater no higher than 120 degrees 13. Use a clothes line 14. Wash your clothes in cold water 15. Fix things that are broken instead of buying new 16. Pay your bills online 17. Clean lint filter in dryer after each use 18. Keep your car tires inflated 19. Buy second hand products 20.
