Carbon neutral and plus energy building design, Target group: Junior architects and building designers. No. of participants: Max. 15, Instructor: Marwa Dabaieh,PhD, eeca.courses@gmail, Who can join this workshop? Junior architects, planners, capital project managers, senior architectural students, those who work in educational environments and are interested in high-performance buildings. Goal and Objective: This workshop aims to disseminate the knowledge that is emerging in both practice and academia on designing carbon neutral and zero energy buildings. The workshop will deal with practical design guidelines and strategies to assist carbon neutral design planning and processes. It will include methods to frame carbon neutral project goals, strategies to establish proposed energy and carbon profiles, and evaluation methods to assess performance. We will discuss applying current best practices of high performance plus energy designs and help young practitioner to communicate this knowledge with their clients. The workshop will include an in-depth analysis of design tools, software, and performance metrics. During the two days we will: -Discuss design strategies and tools that help and leads to the successful design and construction of carbon neutral buildings and even beyond. -Explore different successful projects that tried to achieve carbon neutrality. -Originate inspiration for climate-specific carbon neutral design and understand the strategies related to our hot specific climate zone. -Learn and understand strategies of integrated design, technology, research that can be applied to your current or future projects to move them to carbon neutrality and beyond. -Look at strategies that tie the lessons from our vernacular and traditional buildings and contemporary research of successful carbon neutral and beyond buildings. - Discuss how to communicate with clients (occupants) who will use the buildings and we will discuss our message to the community as a whole. After the two days participants: -Should be familiar with design strategies for carbon neutral and plus energy buildings -Should be able to calculate carbon foot print for buildings. -Should be able to calculate energy consumption of buildings.
