Care and Home Remedies for Blackheads: Blackheads or open comedones are yellow or black colored small bumps that are present on the pores of the skin. They tend to block the hair follicles with sebum and dead skin cells. Blackheads usually appear on the forehead, nose, neck, chest, back and other areas containing more oil glands. Blackhead is another type of Acne Vulgaris. Basically, Blackheads are caused by overactive sebaceous glands or oil glands. Sebum is an oily substance naturally secreted by sebaceous glands present on the skin. When this sebum is produced in excess, it combines with dead skin cells and clogs the pores on the skin. Home Remedies: • The application of a mixture of one teaspoon lime juice and one teaspoon cinnamon powder is also beneficial in the natural treatment of Blackheads. Mix all the ingredients properly and apply it to your entire face, including the infected area. Leave it for five minutes and then rinse your skin with normal water. For this remedy take one teaspoon of cinnamon powder in a bowl and mix it with honey to form a thick paste. Apply the paste on the affected area before your bedtime and leave it overnight. Next morning, wash your face properly with normal water. For best result, follow this remedy daily for about ten days. Else you can make a mixture by adding one teaspoon each of cinnamon powder and lime juice with a pinch of turmeric powder. •Cornmeal can also be used to treat blackheads as it can react abrasively on dirt blocking the pores on your skin. Take one tablespoon of powdered cornmeal and mix it with some of your regular facial cleanser. Before applying the mixture, go for steam therapy so that the skin pores open up. Now apply it on your face and gently massage it in a circular motion. Concentrate on the nose and chin area. After a few minutes, rinse your face with cold water. This will help the pores of your skin to close. Diet for Blackheads: A balanced and nutritious diet with less refined carbohydrates and fats is highly beneficial in dealing with Blackheads. Therefore, the diet should consist of fresh and natural fruits, vegetables and whole grains that are rich in essential vitamins and minerals. Processed and oily foods prepared from refined white flour should be avoided as far as possible. Drink plenty of water as it helps flush out toxins from the body.
