Caribbean Creativity: In 2013 the work of the New Caribbean Cinema - TopicsExpress

Caribbean Creativity: In 2013 the work of the New Caribbean Cinema collective was presented at World Cinema Amsterdam, an annual film festival in the capital of the Netherlands dedicated to independently produced films from Latin America, Asia and Africa. CinemaTV talked about the collective with Storm Saulter, co-founder of New Caribbean Cinema and director of the Jamaican Better Mus Come Movie, and Emiel Martens, film scholar at the University of Amsterdam and founding director of Caribbean Creativity. The information on Jamaicas early film location history is derived from Emiel Martens PhD thesis Welcome to Paradise Island: The Rise of Jamaicas Cine-Tourist Image, 1891-1951 (dare.uva.nl/record/452611). Emiel Martens is a postdoc researcher at KITLV working in the field of Caribbean (Media) Studies. His main research project, which is entitled ‘Welcome to Paradise Island: The Rise of Jamaica’s Cine-Tourist Image’, explores Jamaica’s interwoven history of film and tourism in the early twentieth century.
