Carlos Vela’s Agent Rules Out £4m Arsenal Return The agent of former Arsenal striker Carlos Vela has ruled out a summer return to the Emirates Stadium for his client, according to ESPN. The 24-year-old was thought of as an exciting young prospect when he was signed as a teenager in 2005, and though Arsene Wenger was willing to wait three years for him to gain a work permit before appearing in the first-team, he found opportunities hard to come by with the Gunners. Vela was limited mostly to appearances in the Carling Cup, and though he impressed in the competition, he could not replicate this form in the Premier League or Champions League. After a disappointing loan spell with West Brom, the Mexican was loaned to La Liga side Real Sociedad for the 2011/12 season, before making his move permanent in 2012/13. He has since impressed in Spain with 14 goals and 9 assists this year, prompting rumours that Arsenal could activate a clause in his contract to bring him back to North London for just £4million. However, his agent does not believe this will happen, saying Vela is happy in Spain. “I had a chat with the people at La Real after the game where they sealed their qualification for the Champions League,” he explained. “They told me they are very happy with Carlos and that they want to keep him, despite Arsenal’s buy-back option. I am sure that we will see Carlos there, although this will not end until August.” Vela’s fine performances helped Sociedad to a Champions League spot this season as they finished fourth in La Liga. He has also attracted interest from Arsenal’s Premier League rivals Liverpool.
