Carmel Middle School was chosen as the 2013-14 Special Olympics Project Unify School of the Year! Carmel Middle School’s Special Olympics Club has been a leader in advancing the goals of inclusion and respect for Special Olympics athletes in Mecklenburg County. They have conducted numerous special events and awareness programs within the school, elevating the school environment and impacting the lives of individual athletes. Additionally, their efforts with the “Spread the Word to End the Word” campaign has helped tear down stereo types and brought awareness to the negative impact of hurtful words and bullying.
