Catcalling is a regular part of daily life as I know it in Dominican Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Spain, and Guatemala. It is known as throwing or casting flowers.. Ugly, mean, lewd, vulgar catcalls are called heavy flowers. However, most men were romantic, polite, poetic, and even funny. Leaving the house in the morning for school or work girls and women are braced for the onslaught of attention and comments from friends and strangers along the way. Then came womens liberation and feminism. To this day, I fail to understand the harm in catcalling. I miss all those compliments and lavish praise. I remember hearing a man say that he wished to be one of the curls in hair to experience the joy of being near to me. Now, tell me how any woman could possibly be offended by this comment. Lighten up.
