The Blessed Virgin Mary is the woman blessed among all others and chosen by God to become the Mother of our Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God made man to save us. Thus, the Blessed Virgin Mary is truly Mother of God. 2. How is the Blessed Virgin Mary the Mother of God? The Blessed Virgin Mary is the Mother of God because Jesus Christ, her Son, born of her as a man, is not only true man, but also true God. 3. Why does the Catholic Church show great devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary? The Catholic Church shows great devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary in order to follow the example of God Himself who chose her to be His own Mother. 4. What are the four Mariological Doctrines? a. What is meant by Mary’s Divine Motherhood? By the Immaculate Conception is meant that the Most Blessed Virgin Mary, at the very moment of her conception, by a unique gift of grace and privilege of Almighty God and in view of the foreseen merits of Jesus Christ, the Redeemer of mankind, was preserved from all stain of original sin. This mystery is implied in the words of the Angel Gabriel to Mary: “Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you” (Luke 1:28). 7. What is meant by Mary’s Perpetual Virginity? By Mary’s perpetual virginity is meant that Mary remained always a pure virgin. 8. What is meant by Mary’s Assumption to heaven? By Mary’s Assumption to heave is meant that Mary, the immaculate Mother of God, ever virgin, after the completion of her earthly life, was raised body and soul to the glory of heaven. 9. The principal prayers offered by Christians to honor Mary and to ask for her protection are: the Hail Mary, the Hail Holy Queen, the Angelus, the Holy Rosary, the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Memorare, and the ejaculation, “O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to you!” 10.
