Cautionary advice to my rich women friends! Women of all ages are still vulnerable to the sweet empty murmurings of a suave Casanova. Especially when they are lonely not just physically but in their hearts. Earlier this year Australian media reported how an octogenarian (80+) grandmother who, after transferring vast sums of money to a South African man, travelled to Pretoria to meet him in real person for the first time and hopefully to solemnise the promised marriage to him. They first got to know each other online just some months before, and the man was profiled as a very wealthy widower (why he still needed the money from her??? is baffling but not so really). He wanted a companion to live happily ever after to enjoy watching the evening sunset and listening to the chirpings of lovebirds. And the grandmother fitted his bill or so it seemed. News report then say that in less than 24 hours after the woman arrived in the capital Pretoria, her dead body was found on a dirt track in a faraway village. To cut the story short, a young man was arrested as the suspect. The moral of this case is to highlight that old people, especially women, are particularly vulnerable to these conmen who play on the emotions of lonely people.
