Celebrate Freedom Day 1 - Thursday, Aug 21 - The Freedom celebration begins quietly on a Thursday Afternoon as Vietnam Veterans arrive by the hundreds and check-in to local hotels, cabins, condos and campgrounds. In 2013 more than 500 Vietnam Veterans from 28 States rolled quietly into Pigeon Forge with friends and family to march in “The Parade They Never Got.” The quiet disappeared quickly when we brought everyone together that day. It was a glorious sound, a rousing celebration, a parade filled with the roar of motorcycles, music of marching bands, the sound of Huey flying over, and the cheers from a Welcoming Home Crowd that took 50 years to assemble. This year we want to make more noise. August in Pigeon Forge is “Celebrate Freedom” month a time to salute the freedoms and sacrifice of America’s Military. Participating businesses offer discounts to active and veteran military personnel, as well as police officers, firefighters and emergency responders. This year the special weekend tour is the highlight, the finale of that annual celebration – capped off with “The Welcome Home Vietnam Parade.” This weekend includes several free events as well as several ticketed events. The first special show is the Smoky Mountain Opry’s “Salute to Patriots.” From the biggest stage in Pigeon Forge with singers, dancers, comedians, magicians, jugglers and aerialists you are entertained. This Salute has state of the art special effects including lasers, pyrotechnics, performers that fly overhead, giant video screens, concert quality lighting and sound. It will take your breath away! With music that includes country and pop, comedy and Broadway, the Smoky Mountain Opry salutes America’s Soldier. This Opry Salute and other shows are available only with purchase of the Welcome Home Ticket Package. However there are many Free Events, coupons and discounts available to Veterans.
