Celebrate Janmashtmi with deliciousness and good health.. Heres my recipe of Walnut Almond Halwa in Applesauce Serving - one medium bowl Cooking time – 15 minutes Ingredients: 2 large juicy apple 4 tsp sugar ½ Cinnamon stick 2 pods cardamom ¾ cup walnuts ¼ cup slivered almonds 2 tsp ghee 1/2 cup milk powder (or condensed milk) Procedure: 1. Run walnuts and slivered almonds in the food processor till a coarse flour like texture. 2. For the sauce: Peel the apple and grate it into fiber like texture. Heat the ghee in the skillet, add grated apple and sugar. Cook continuously for 5 minutes. Add cinnamon to enhance the flavour of apple. Cook till a sauce like consistency is formed. 3. Add powdered walnuts and almonds and cook it till you smell the aroma or see it getting combined in dough like form. 4. At this stage, add milk powder (use condensed milk for richer taste). Cook for additional 5 minutes. Do not leave from the stove at this point as it gets browned quickly. 5. Garnish with more slivered almonds. 6. Serve hot (I like it cold too - your choice) Variations: This recipe is light to eat, good to smell and most importantly versatile. You can experiment with it to incorporate your favorite fruit like pineapple or vegetable like Pumpkin/carrot too. Certain other variations could be – Apple with milk powder ( no nuts), apple with only one nut (walnut or almonds), almonds with figs. Notes: If you are not able to find slivered almonds, then make your own by blanching the almonds, removing skin and put it in the oven at 300 degrees for 10 min to dry. It’s ready
