Celebs soak up sun, sea, sand.....by Nation News, Barbados It seems there has been a invasion of Who’s Who, whatever their rank on the celebrity scale. Many have made Barbados their destination for Christmas holiday for the past couple of years and word gets around so many others have been flocking here for the sun, sea, sand and surf. Models, A-listers and a smattering of pop stars and media moguls have taken over the beaches. You know they are here by the sightings of the oversized yachts berthed in Port St Charles and Port Ferdinand on the West Coast where most of the rich and famous choose to holiday at this time of year and the tarmac to the left of the Grantley Adams International Airport has some private planes parked there. The destinations have their own themes: the party animals head to St Bart’s and the status-aware end up in Barbados while the sophisticated flock to Mexico, Brazil and the ski slopes of Aspen etc. For Christmas 2014 and heading into 2015 there has been a British invasion, led by Simon Cowell, who has been coming here for the past ten years. Cowell, 55, the dark lord of popular culture, recharges his batteries in the sunshine every year after The X Factor circus. This year he is accompanied by girlfriend Lauren Silverman, 37, and their ten-month-old son Eric. United States actor Mark Wahlber said in an interview that it was his wife’s idea to vacation somewhere sunny, so they picked Barbados. Others here are Simon’s ex-girlfriend Sinitta and her new boyfriend Jason Gale; Topshop boss Sir Philip Green and his family; glamour model-turned-bodybuilder and presenter Jodie Marsh; TV presenter Lizzie Cundy; Ashley Tabor, the owner of Heart and Capital Radio; X Factor boy band Union J and their partners; Xtra Factor host Sarah Jane Crawford with her boyfriend Ross Harland; pop star Nathan Sykes, formerly of the group, The Wanted; former X Factor judge Tulisa Contostavlos; TV presenter Emma Forbes and husband Graham Clempson; showbiz agent Jonathan Shalit with wife Kristina; and Lady Victoria Hervey who last year was in St. Barts.
